Platelet-forming cells of the mouse embryo appear in 2 waves, first as a primitive diploid population in the yolk sac, followed by polyploid megakaryocytes in the fetal liver. To investigate their emergence and dispersal throughout development, the whole embryonic day 10.5 embryo was stained and chemically cleared to reveal platelet-forming cells within the vasculature.
