A three-dimensional rendering of a forming Weibel-Palade body (green) that is connected to the Golgi apparatus (yellow) via various connections. Weibel-Palade bodies are formed by vascular endothelial cells and are filled with large quantities of von Willebrand factor. The multiple connections between forming Weibel-Palade bodies and the Golgi apparatus were discovered by performing correlative light and electron microscopy and electron tomography on green fluorescent protein–labeled Weibel-Palade bodies. The connections seem to facilitate content delivery to newly forming Weibel-Palade bodies. See the article by Mourik et al on page 3509.
