In proplatelet-forming megakaryocytes lacking the small Rho GTPases Rac1 and Cdc42, tubulin is organized in thick bundles, which only partially colocalize with actin. Additionally, tubulin is virtually absent in most proplatelet tips, providing a possible explanation for the observed macrothrombocytopenia in the absence of Rac1 and Cdc42. The image shows fetal liver cell-derived megakaryocytes that were stained with an anti-tubulin antibody (green), phalloidin (red), and DAPI (blue). See the article by Pleines et al on page 3178.
