Two decades after the discovery of the hematopoietic Flt3 signaling system, Verstraete et al report on the structural basis for the assembly of the human Flt3 ligand-receptor complex. The image depicts the Flt3 ligand-receptor complex featuring an unusually compact interaction epitope mounted onto a novel ternary assembly. The ensuing structural insights offer valuable new perspectives toward the development of therapeutics against hematopoietic malignancies for which Flt3 is clinically relevant, such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
