This image is a 3D rendering of an electron tomogram and shows the limiting membrane of a Weibel-Palade body (in green) docked to the membrane of a “secretory pod” (in blue), a novel structure formed by the coalescence of multiple Weibel-Palade bodies in secretagogue-challenged vascular endothelial cells. The coalescence of Weibel-Palade bodies, which leads to multigranular exocytosis, appears to be mediated by very small vesicles termed nanovesicles (in purple).
