A hematoxylin and eosin–stained cytospin image of erythroblastic islands from mouse bone marrow highlights the presence of immature granulocytes among the maturing erythroblasts. Both associate closely with the central macrophages, which exhibit transcriptional heterogeneity as revealed by cellular indexing of transcriptome and epitopes sequencing (CITE-seq).
