    Megakaryocyte colonies grown in vitro in cocultures with bone marrow endothelial progenitor cells (BM EPCs) from corticosteroid-sensitive immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients. Colonies were defined as groups of 3 or more GPIIb/IIIa-positive cells by immunocytochemical staining. Atorvastatin treatment improves colony-forming unit–plating efficiency and promotes megakaryocytopoiesis in cultures with BM EPCs from corticosteroid-resistant ITP patients.
