Osteoclasts, the effector cells for bone resorption, can act as antigen-presenting cells and activate CD4⁺ and CD8⁺ T cells in vitro. The cover shows an image of osteoclasts with multiple cell nuclei and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase activity, which appears as purple to dark red granules in the cytoplasm of the cells.
