BLOOD COMMENTARIES

CLINICAL TRIALS AND OBSERVATIONS

In this issue of Blood, Pengo et al present a randomized control trial comparing the use of rivaroxaban and warfarin in high-risk patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). The trial was stopped early because of an increased number of events in the rivaroxaban arm.1

PLATELETS AND THROMBOPOIESIS

In this issue of Blood, Hofmann et al and Geer et al describe signal-transducing properties of G6b-B that are required for normal platelet production by megakaryocytes in both humans and mice.1,2

THROMBOSIS AND HEMOSTASIS

In this issue of Blood, Yago et al1  describe the mechanism by which neutrophils adhere to activated endothelium and enhance murine venous thrombosis through formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs).

TRANSPLANTATION

The Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) study 1204 of stem cell transplantation for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and primary immunodeficiencies (PID) presented in this issue of Blood by Allen et al emphasizes how far treatment and outcomes in these rare diseases have come but also how important multicenter trials are to find a “sweet spot” in the design of curative regimens.1
