1. A case of hemorrhagic disease in an infant due to deficiency of a previously undescribed plasma coagulation factor has been presented.

2. The patient demonstrated all presently accepted criteria for a diagnosis of hemophilia, but the deficient factor was demonstrably different in the two conditions.

3. The deficient factor was found in both normal and hemophilic plasmas.

4. The plasma factor deficient in the patient appeared essential for the formation of active thromboplastin.

5. Localization of the deficient factor was carried out by means of plasma fractionation.

6. The possible relationship of the patient to other cases of nonfamilial hemophilia was suggested.
