In vivo elution rates of Cr51 from red cells containing Hb C and from placental red cells containing large amounts of Hb F have been determined. These were found to be 1.8 and 0.85 per cent per day, respectively, and do not differ greatly from those of normal adult red cells. Therefore, no special correction factors for elution need be used in evaluating Cr51 survival curves in these clinical situations. The in vivo elution rate of 3.5 per cent/day observed for Hb C-S is significantly greater than that of normal red cells.
