Published reports have been analyzed and integrated so as to suggest that various types of mesenchymally derived mononuclear cells in hematopoietic tissue, by shedding fragments of their own gelatinous protoplasm (hyaline bodies) and by dissolving, give rise to a sol which is the blood plasma. The presentation is in accord with the concept that the mesenchyme and its derivatives are truly the perpetual source of the whole blood, i.e., the blood plasma as well as the blood cells.
