Vitamin C has historically been designated as a contraindicated substance for patients with G6PD deficiency due to risk of hemolysis. We report a case where a patient with Class A G6PD deficiency has decreased hemolysis after supplement ingestion.

A member of a previously described family with Class A G6PD deficiency decided to take over counter 500 mg of vitamin C and requested us to measure possible benefits. After vitamin C ingestion, his red cell survival increased and hemolysis decreased.
