An 1857 photograph of 48-year-old Emma Darwin and her youngest child, Charles Waring, taken by 17-year-old William with a camera he received for his birthday. Although not diagnostic, the baby's facial features are consistent with a diagnosis of Down syndrome, and advanced maternal age and the notes taken by Charles also support this diagnosis.
