VCAM-1 activation of endothelial cell MMP-2 and MMP-9 is not altered by laminar flow. Confluent endothelial cells on glass slides were incubated with anti–VCAM-1 beads and exposed to static conditions or 2 dynes/cm² laminar flow for 15 minutes. Medium was removed and cells were examined by zymography. The same number of beads was bound for static and laminar flow conditions (data not shown).
