High levels of wild-type AID (646 bp) and 2 splice variants (939 bp and 530 bp) were detected in 7 of 7 cases of CLL with unmutated VH genes (lanes 1-7) but only 1 of 13 cases with mutated VH genes (lanes 8-20). The amount of cDNA amplified for each sample was comparable, as shown by the β-actin signal. (B) Expression of AID in NBCs. In contrast, wild-type AID and splice variants were not detected in 5 NBC samples using our standard conditions.
