(A) Cells cultured in serum-free medium with different combinations. Full cell differentiation, including PPF, occurred only in FN/PMA costimulation. Original magnification × 200. (B) Culture dishes were coated with a single matrix protein (50 μg/mL) overnight. Cells were cultured in serum-free medium in the presence of PMA (10 ng/mL) and a single matrix protein for 3 days. Cells were seeded at a concentration of 2.5 × 104 cells per milliliter and counted in 1-mm2 areas by means of phase contrast microscopy. SM, serum-containing medium; SFM, serum-free medium.
