The histograms represent the derivatives of the hemolysis curves and were obtained by computing (Δ % lysis)/ΔRT for each ΔRT interval, as detailed in “Materials and methods.” The hemolysis curves analyzed in Figure 5 were derived from the results reported in Figure 4. Panels D-I were derived from Figure 4D, panels A and B from Figure 4C (initial and final curves), and panel C from Figure 4A (fully dehydrated cells).
