Profile migration of osmotic lysis curves of oxy and deoxy AA and SS discocytes: effects of vanadate and [Ca²⁺]_oon RBC volume distributions.

RBCs were suspended at 10% Hct in solution C containing 2 mM [Ca²⁺]_o and incubated at 37°C in a tonometer. At time = 0, vanadate (1 mM) was added to all suspensions except the controls. Samples for hemolysis curves were taken at the indicated times after vanadate addition. Percent lysis is plotted as a function of RT (see “Materials and methods”). The RBC type and suspension conditions are indicated in the figure.
