Flow cytometric separation strategy.

(A) For the isolation of Lin⁺ white blood cells were gated from whole BM (R1) followed by the selection of PE-positive cells (R2). (B) For the isolation of Lin⁻ cells, white blood cells were gated from Lin⁻ MACS-depleted marrow (R1), followed by the selection of PE-negative cells (R2). For the isolation of Lin⁻WGA^dim-medRh^{dim or bright}, cells were gated from Lin⁻ MACS-depleted marrow (R1), followed by the selection of PE-negative cells (R2), followed by the selection of WGA^dim-med-cells (R3), followed by the selection of either Rh^dim- (R4) or Rh^bright-cells (R5).
