Inhibition of protein prenylation blocks LPS-induced IL-8 production by HUVECs.

Exposure of endothelial monolayers to 1μM to 100μM HMG–coenzyme A reductase inhibitor lovastatin 2 hours before and during stimulation with 100 ng/mL LPS inhibited IL-8 synthesis in a dose-dependent manner; 100μM mevalonic acid restored the ability of lovastatin-exposed HUVECs to secrete IL-8 upon LPS stimulation.
