Protein production from the two forms of the GP Ib cDNA was evaluated in a cell-free transcription/translation system using [35S]methionine as the radiolabel for the newly synthesized protein. The band designated GP Ib is of the molecular weight expected for the polypeptide that has not been posttranslationally modified (∼70 kD). The experiment was performed six times; a representative autoradiogram is shown. The autoradiogram was obtained by phosphorimaging; the band densities are expressed in arbitrary units. Substantially more protein was synthesized from the −5C plasmid.
