Pinocytosis in macrophages. Murine clone 4-4 macrophages were incubated for various time intervals with [³H]-sucrose at 37°C. Subsequently, the cells were placed on ice and washed, and accumulated radioactivity was determined by scintillation counting. Using the specific activity of the [³H]sucrose, volume uptake was calculated and expressed as femtoliter per cell.
