Fig. 1.
Fig. 1. Analysis of the effect of tumor growth on the expression of multiple genes in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells in vivo. Gene expression was analyzed by dot-blot mRNA analysis in cells from tumor-bearing immuno-competent DBA/2 (A) and from immuno-incompetent Balb/c (nu/nu) (B) mice. The relative densitometry units were calculated from the autoradiograms such as shown in Figs 3 and 4. They represent the ratio between the density of the specific mRNA transcript to the GAPDH transcript as described in Materials and Methods. The expression levels at day 0 (control, x-axis) were plotted versus those obtained at the indicated days after tumor inoculation (ESbl-lacZ, y-axis). Dots around the diagonal represent genes without expression changes, whereas dots below (suppression) or above (induction) the diagonal represent genes with altered expression within the experiments. Representative data from two in vivo experiments for immuno-competent DBA/2 and immuno-incompetent Balb/c (nu/nu) mice are shown. For further analysis selected genes are labeled (A4, B2, C3, and E10).
