Groups include healthy volunteers (NL), pretreatment HFE hemochromatosis (HH-UN), iron-depleted HFE hemochromatosis (HH-TX), juvenile hemochromatosis resulting from mutations in hemojuvelin (JH), iron deficiency (ID), patients with inflammation (INF, CRP > 10 mg/dL), multiple myeloma (MM), and adult or pediatric chronic kidney disease (not requiring dialysis, ACKD and PCKD, respectively). All disease groups except for HH-UN differed significantly from normal (P < .001 except PKCD P < .01, Mann-Whitney test).
