Figure 4. Expression of P-selectin and integrin α2bβ3 activation is reduced after a high-ALA diet. Washed mouse platelets were activated with thrombin (0.05 and 0.1 U/mL) or collagen (5 μg/L) and stained with specific fluorophore-conjugated antibodies for P-selectin (A) and the activated form of the integrin α2bβ3 (B). Samples were analyzed by flow cytometry. In both cases there was a reduced positivity in platelets from high-ALA mice (n = 8; *P = .045; **P = .01). The percentage of double-positive platelets was also found to be significantly lower after a high-ALA diet (C; n = 8; *P = .03; **P = .004). Binding of annexin V to PS/PE was decreased overall in high-ALA mice but did not reach statistical significance (D; n = 5; P > .05).
