Illustrative examples of the hematologic impact of dapsone in individual patients with falciparum malaria. These 4 girls were all from the same site (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso). (A) was G6PD normal, (B) was homozygous for G6PD deficiency, and (C) and (D) were heterozygous for G6PD deficiency. It is seen that one of the heterozygotes behaved almost exactly like a G6PD-normal child, whereas the other behaved almost exactly like a homozygous G6PD-deficient child.
