Countries were categorized by quintiles with increasing values of the HDI: first quintile indicates Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Turkey (n = 349); second quintile, Germany and Italy (n = 748); third quintile, France and Spain (n = 412); fourth quintile, Austria and the United Kingdom (n = 220); and fifth quintile, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands (n = 286).
