Several clusters of direct interaction partners are marked and correspond, for example, to adhesion receptors, effector proteins, or vesicular proteins (sorting based on function-derived, eg, by GO terms and Swiss-Prot entry information). However, the majority of proteins are without direct interaction partners, thereby arguing for a more extensive near-membrane proteome.
