Changes of macrophage iron uptake and release in different anemia groups. Peritoneal macrophages were harvested from control, phlebotomized (IDA), ACD, and ACD/IDA rats, respectively. TBI (A), NTBI (B), and macrophage iron release (C) were then studied as detailed in “Quantification of macrophage iron transport.” Values were normalized to total protein content.
