MAN-1 binding as diagnostic marker for basal monocyte activation in patients with sepsis. MAN-1 binding to monocytes of 18 patients with severe sepsis compared with sex- and age-matched patients without any sign of inflammation as analyzed by whole-blood flow cytometry. MAN-1 binding without activation (basal activation) and after PMA stimulation are shown as a percentage of monocytes positive for MAN-1 as detected by an Alexa Fluor 488–labeled anti–His-tag antibody.
