Schematic of a spatial transcriptomics workflow applied to bone marrow trephine biopsies from a hematologic patient cohort
The samples undergo sectioning prior to performing either imaging- or sequencing-based spatial transcriptomic (ST) approaches. The product of either ST approach are matrices, with rows and columns corresponding to genes and locations. These undergo bioinformatic processing to identify multicellular neighborhoods. The application of artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches with ST and multimodal datasets enables large-scale data analysis, with the potential of ST to offer new insights and clinically translatable findings to hematology.
