For individuals with SCD and continuous Medicaid coverage from 2016 to 2018, all encounters with a hematologist were identified using Medicaid claims. Individuals were categorized into those that had no hematologist encounters or those that had at least one hematologist encounter during the 3-year period from 2016 to 2018.
