Number of endothelial colonies developing at 7 days of cultures from 1 × 105 CD34+, CD34+CD11b+, and CD34+CD11b- cord blood subsets, purified by cell sorting. Each experiment represents the analysis of cell subsets purified from individual cord blood donors. All cultures were monitored for up to 6 weeks. Scoring for the presence of endothelial colonies was performed in double blind by 2 independent investigators at 7 days, a culture period at which individual colonies could still be identified before becoming confluent.
Exp indicates experiment.
One experiment in which CD34+CD11b- cells developed 1 small endothelial colony after 3 weeks of culture.
