Placental abruption indicates premature separation of a normally located placenta prior to delivery of the fetus; preeclampsia, pregnancy-induced or -aggravated hypertension that may be associated with proteinuria and/or other manifestations; and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), a fetus small for gestational age (< 10th percentile, or < 3rd percentile [severe IUGR]).
