The velocity of free-flowing cells was determined in BM microvessels of irradiated (3 hours after a single 12 Gy dose) or nonirradiated mice after the injection of fluorescently labeled mononuclear and red blood cells obtained from the BM of donor mice. Vessel diameters were measured using a video caliper, and mean blood velocity (Vmax) and wall shear rates (WSRs) were calculated as described.22  Data shown are means ± SEMs from 32 (nonirradiated) and 21 (irradiated) vessels. P values given compare the different parameters between irradiated and nonirradiated groups.
