Single-sorted 2-day 5FU Lin(−)Sca-1(+)c-kit(+) or NBMLin(−)Sca-1(+)c-kit(+)CD34(−) cells were grown in liquid culture containing 20% FCS, 100 ng/mL rmSF, and 100 ng/mL rhIL-11 in round-bottom microtiter plates. After 5 and 10 days of incubation, cell number per well was scored using an inverted light microscope. No growth was observed in rmSF alone or rhIL-11 alone.
