Progenitor cells were enriched from HIV-1–infected or control grafts by magnetic particle depletion with CD3 and CD8 monoclonal antibodies and were grown in methylcellulose cultures. Mature colonies were lysed and amplified by PCR for HIV-1 gag sequences. Data are expressed as gag-PCR positive colonies/number of colonies screened.
