Percent ISCs formed during cyclic oxygenation/deoxygenation of low density (45% Percoll layer) sickle cells with various concentrations of NAC at 37°C. Δ ISCs represent the percent difference in the number of ISCs compared with ISCs on smears from 16 hours cycling in the absence of NAC. The values represent the mean and standard error from the number of experiments indicated in parentheses. Number of individual patients is shown in square brackets.
