Percent ISCs formed during cyclic oxygenation/deoxygenation of DTT treated light density (45% Percoll layer) sickle cells at 37°C. Δ ISCs represents the percent change in the number of ISCs compared with ISCs on smears from 16 hours cycling in the absence of DTT. The values represent the mean and standard error from the number of experiments indicated in parentheses. The experiments were performed on four homozygous SS patients.
Indicates a significant difference from the 0.0 mmol/L concentration (P < .05).
