Control experiments performed on freshly isolated CD3+ T cells gave the following results (mean of three healthy donors): % TCR+ cells, 96.39 ± 1.9; mean number of TCR sites, 25,022 ± 282; % CD4+ cells, 62.3 ± 10.13; mean number of CD4 sites, 50,634 ± 2139; % CD95+ cells, 59.08 ± 6.2; mean number of CD95 sites, 12,293 ± 1,105.

All cells were positive for each of the surface molecules analyzed; mean number of sites/cell was calculated as described in Materials and Methods; the values reported are the mean of two to three independent determinations, variation was less than 20% of the mean.
