Definition of transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI).

*During or within 6 hours of the completion of the transfusion. 
Recognition by the clinical care team that ALI is most likely due to the transfusion. 
Abbreviations: ALI, acute lung injury 
  1. TRALI in patients with clinical risk factors for ALI:

    • New ALI temporally related to transfusion.*

    • The new ALI is thought to be mechanistically related to the transfusion.

    • Worsening of pre-existing pulmonary insufficiency temporally related to transfusion.

  2. TRALI without clinical risk factors for ALI:

    • New ALI temporally related to transfusion.*

    • Worsening of pre-existing pulmonary insufficiency temporally related to transfusion.
