Mean ± SD of GM colony numbers in replicate cultures from 3 mice per genotype. Cultures containing 50,000 bone marrow cells were stimulated with IL-11 (fixed concentration of 10 ng/mL), IL-3, and SCF (at the above-noted final concentrations) and scored by an investigator blinded to the genotype of the animals from which the cells were derived. Note the lack of response to IL-11 in IL11Ra−/− mice. The increment in colony numbers in the presence of IL-11 was significant for IL11Ra+/+ mice.
