PBMC from MM patients or normal donors were stained with CD19 MoAb and sorted for positive cells. On reanalysis >96% of sorted cells were positive for CD19 staining. For some samples very few slides were available for this analysis. T cells from MM patients had 0% to 8% of cells that were weakly positive for CD34 mRNA, and none that had an accumulation of colored product comparable to that seen for B cells (not shown), and lacked IgH or CD19 mRNA.9 10 For each patient, >150 cells were microscopically counted to determine the number positive for CD19, IgH, and histone in situ RT-PCR staining. Replicate staining, when possible, gave essentially the same values on each slide. Mean values are ± SE.
