PBMCs from healthy donors were incubated with EBV for 20 minutes, diluted to 1 mL with HBSS, and stimulated with zymosan (0.1 mg/mL for 30 minutes), fMLP (1 μmol/L for 10 minutes), or A23187 (75 nmol/L for 5 minutes). Reactions were stopped by the addition of 1 vol of methanol/acetonitrile (50/50, vol/vol) and the LTB4 content of incubation media was measured by RP-HPLC. Values are the means of triplicate incubations ± SD and are expressed in picomoles per 10 × 106 cells. LTB4 synthesis was not detectable in untreated cells or in cells treated with EBV only.

Abbreviation: ND, not detectable.
