Adjusted for age, sex, smoking, alcohol use, systolic and diastolic pressure, pulse rate, estimated glomerular filtration rate, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, total serum cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, hemoglobin, fasting glucose, serum albumin, body mass index, white blood cell count, and uric acid.

For the analysis of cardiovascular death, we excluded older people with a history of cardiovascular disease at baseline. Finally, 114 944 participants without cardiovascular disease entered this model.
