CI, confidence interval; DVT, deep vein thrombosis; FVL, factor V Leiden; PE, pulmonary embolism; PGM, prothrombin 20210A gene variant; VTE, venous thromboembolism.

*

For provoked vs unprovoked: univariable odds ratio, 0.40 (95% CI, 0.25-0.65); multivariable odds ratio, 0.42 (95% CI, 0.26-0.70).

When age was divided into quartiles with the fourth quartile (>72 years) as the reference, the adjusted odds ratio for VTE was 1.40 (95% CI, 0.81-2.41; P = .22) in the third quartile (62-72 years), 1.47 (95% CI, 0.83-2.60; P = .18) in the second quartile (48-61 years), and 3.49 (95% CI, 1.98-6.14; P < .001) in the first quartile (<47 years).
