Body weight, spleen weight, and spleen nonheme iron concentration were measured in 8-week-old female mice. Total spleen nonheme iron content was calculated by multiplying the spleen nonheme iron concentration by the spleen weight. The number of mice studied was as follows: Tmprss6+/+ (n = 7), Tmprss6+/− (n = 8), and Tmprss6−/− (body weight and spleen iron content, n = 8; spleen weight, n = 4). Data are presented as mean ± SEM.
