Mice received G-CSF and SCF (G + S) subcutaneously on days 17 to 20 (1 cycle of mobilization) or on days 17 to 20, days 24 to 27, and days 31 to 34 of parabiosis (3 cycles of mobilization). Phenotypes of HSCs in marrow and blood were assessed 1 day or 1 week after cytokine administration (ie, after 5 or 6 weeks of parabiosis, respectively)

Mice received AMD3100 (5 mg/kg) subcutaneously on day 21 of parabiosis. Phenotypes of HSCs in marrow and blood were assessed 3 weeks after AMD3100 administration (ie, at 6 weeks of parabiosis)

To calculate the percentage of HSCs that were exchanged, data from the parabiotic pairs were averaged

HSC engraftment was defined by granulocytic chimerism. HSC engraftment defined by lymphoid chimerism was always equivalent (data not shown)
