AB Platelets support the mobilization and migration of myeloid cells to distant sites undergoing active angiogenesis. Thus, platelet communication with the bone marrow facilitates a growing tumor's insatiable appetite for nutrients.The relevance of myeloid cells (bone marrow–derived cells or BMDCs) and platelets to tumor growth has long been recognized but that both are mechanistically linked is the latest information that expands the relevance of platelets beyond their traditional role in hemostasis and thrombosis.1,2
